I’ve always had a thing for the underdog - the Little Engine That Could, Herbie the Love Bug, even the Pittburgh Pirates - so when I found a 1966 Vespa GL that had been buried in the back of my father-in-law’s garage for 30 years, I had to have it. After much begging and just a little tinkering (thank you, Mr. Markley), it became my warm-weather transportation, until the riding part was eclipsed by the tinkering part. (I learned that rooting for an underdog is much more fun than financing or fixing one). I’ve since moved on to a Vespa GTS that requires much less maintenance and does a much better job of keeping up with the group. I try to ride whenever I don’t have little Will in tow, and hope to convince my wife that a side car is a sensible investment. Since falling into the scooter scene, quite by accident, I’ve become hooked on the feeling that you get on a country road on a summer day; and can’t imagine sharing that feeling with a better group than the folks who make up TMISC. Hope to see you at the Cornerstone, or out on the road. WILL Legend has it that I was conceived on the front fender of a vintage Vespa at Meltdown 2007, and I've been chomping at the bit to get back on two wheels ever since. Some day mom will let me, but for now dad says that I've gotta get my speed fix from the baby jogger. Be sure to say hi at the next Meltdown. I'll be charming the honeys in my fly scooter cap. Yeah, I'm smiling at you, baby. |
